Recombinant human IL-6 produced in E. coli is a single, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing 184 amino acids. Recombinant human IL-6 is different from natural IL-6 with only one proline replaced by serine at the N-terminal, but no difference in activity between the two in vivo and in vitro.
